General Work in Progress Chat

Yeah I ended up biting the bullet and just pan cropping the Halo 5 clips to 'match' the halo 3 ones shield wise.

-Text is too big

-Going to make the black bars a bit smaller as it cuts off half the score in H5

-Should I have the names go away when scoped in with snipe? Looks kind of funny to me when I have them in entire time.

General rule is having a lower third/title up for 4-5 seconds.
So you think it would be best to just have em come in and then fade em out after a few seconds?
Yeah, I'm no editor but definitely take the name out once you've taken it away, if that makes sense. Like when you took the name out when he scoped in with snipe, it looks weird when it reappears after.
Change the font, that looks terrible. Watch Prime and try using a font like that. Looks much cleaner and less noticeable.
Definitely have it only appear for a short time. Idk if you know how to do this as well but maybe put the text on a luma layer and add a drop shadow? Could look nice if you wanted it in perma.

To add to Fatal... Steelfish is a nice looking sans serif font???

TRIPLE POST I'M A FUCKING COCK.

I'm stuck on a bounce sticky betrayal on a team mate and I want to show me getting kicked from the game with a slow mo pin warp + trapcode form disintegrate and I'm really confused and ughhh, somebody give me motivation to finish this thing for the contest before I stab myself.

Change the font, and also reduce opacity to more like 50% if I were you. I'd always rather put names for too short rather than too long- if someone is really curious they can just rewind the vid or go back and watch it again. When possible, I'm in favor of just leaving off the names and then listing each player's clips in the video description.

That possible in Vegas?  Not getting any google search results.

Anyways yeah good call on the font guys. Was originally going to put the names in the bottom right corner and have them take up the score board ala Neighbor & Hysteria, but abandoned that due to H5/H3.

Prime text is what I'll be doing,  or something similar.

And make sure there's no names on angles or while scoped in. It looks so dumb, I made that mistake once.

I don't have a single angle during the two songs so that won't be an issue lol.

What happens if a clip starts scoped in? Or scopes in very quickly? Should I wait for a part of the clip where they unscope for 3 seconds (time I'm using for fade in / out).

Here is what I've settled on in terms of font and crap. Placement ok?

Edit: I lowered the H3 text a bit so it wasn't on the hud. For clips where it scopes in real quick I'm just either going to do a super short fade in/out, first time it unscopes, or if neither of those options available for some reason, put it when it scopes.

THANKS GUYS

Looks great. You could try increasing the tracking so the text goes across the entire shield bar. Might look good.

EDIT: Something like this.

Better? (forgot to put an extra space between O and T)

Does it look weird having the H3 text lower on the screen to compensate for the differences in where the HUD is? Wouldn't really notice it at all since its fading in and out so I think its fine.

Edit: I'm just going to add an extra space between each letter. All three of our names are vastly different in length so they look different when trying to line it up with the health.

That looks way better Eamonn!!

ps. You can't add a luma layer in Vegas as far as I know.

I FIGURED OUT MY IDEA YOU GUYS ARE GONNA BE SO PROUD, although at this rate that deadline is coming up pretty quick I don't think I'm gonna make it lol

nvm

Here's a scrapped edit I worked on for a day about a month ago for the contest, guy didn't like the music and I didn't like his choices. This was supposed to be the end of the intro...pretty disappointed I didn't get to see it through, really thought this intro was gonna be the tits.

I have a bunch more of these from other scrapped edits if anyone is interested.

Evadur's gameplay is so sick. Would've loved to see what you did with that tage.

Yes it was, disappointed he wasn't liking my plans for his video. But in the end he worked hard for that gameplay, so up to him to make a decision.

Another Montage 7 Update:

glad to see im not alone
Finished the edit for Deany's submission. Got some screenshots of the project files which are always personally satisfying for me to see. Also added in some extra screenshots showing some visuals to give a little taste of what the video's like:

Holy shit that's a lot of markers lol. Here's the project files for Joey's and Trunk's montages.

oh you don't even want to see the one I've got going right now, it doesn't even fit on my full screen lmao
So the 4th and 3rd tracks of your files are muted, and I'm curious as to why that is. If it has anything to do with how you make such clean and perfect videos with beautiful angles, then I wanna know how lol. Or maybe it's just because you test out ideas on that track or something.

Guys, it's happening. I actually started today!

In my editing process, I'll begin by syncing all the clips and angles with no effects or transitions, render in chunks and do effects/colours in AE, and then render back and re-assemble it in Vegas. The muted track is the initial stage of the montage, just the synced clips and angles. The track above it is the same clip but after I've taken it through AE.

I do the same thing but stop at the step before "render in chunks and do effects/colours in AE".

That's cool and sort of 'professional' in a way, and it's all the more reason I should probably start using AE myself. I always end up rerendering in vegas, but AE seems to pump out more ambient renders from what ive seen

Just rendering out of AE doesn't make it look nicer lol. It's usually because of added motion blur, better colour correction tools, etc. that it'll make your video look nicer than if you edit just in Vegas. I think you can get Magic Bullet for Vegas though which gives you a lot more options when it comes to colour correction.
yeah I didn't really clarify in my sentence, but i realize that rendering normal, unedited footage in either program is going to give you the exact same result. I meant that AE seems to offer more "ambient" renders precisely because there are more advanced tools at your disposal. Nobody renders previously rendered footage without adding something to it, but AE allows you to get the most out of that process from what I've gathered basically.

Even Magic Bullet is better in AE honestly. I still use Vegas because I'm an absolute moron when it comes to rendering out of AE, but the quality is much nicer and AE has much nicer color grading.

Just need some angles tomorrow night and I'm ready to put the CC, transitions, and final effects on Montage 7 :)

Wow, that was fast af. You need staging dummies?
