Official THF 2.0 Bugs & Feedback Thread
Not sure if this has been touched on but it would be nice to have a bit of a halo feel infused into the site in some way.
This is something that is very much on my mind. I feel that the branding still needs to be stronger here, so I'm happy to hear any brainstorming you or others have on how we can make Halo more prevalent. Now, I feel our homepage and videos section will always do a good job of this because of their content and preview images, but certainly the forums could use something Halo-ish to make them stand out.
I have one idea that I might try to implement today, you'll all notice it if I do.
idk if this has been mentioned yet but has anyone else noticed that the Youtube thumbnails for embedded content look like ass? It just looks to me like the thumbnail for the [HQ5] server side generated thumb is being fetched instead of the [HD720] one.
Ah, good catch. Actually, the high res thumbnails were being pulled but Drupal has what's called an image style system that crops and resizes images to particular dimensions, and the thumbnail resolution was set to smaller than the actual width of each video cell (and the images were stretching to 100% width). So I've increased that image style res and flushed the cache. Should look slightly better now.
One thing to keep in mind, is not all videos have high res thumbnails. It's something that's relatively new for Youtube, and some older videos never got high res thumbnails after they added the feature.
An image lightbox for mobile would be dope.
Yeah, I thought about that. I want to, but it also kind of breaks linked images. Personally, I'd be fine with just saying screw linked images and add the lightbox, but I didn't just want to jump to that conclusion.
Right now, images scale to a max-width of 100%, but I also made it so there is a max-height of like 800px, so tall images don't get ridiculously out of hand.
How long does it take for a video to get accepted? I submitted like six of my videos yesterday, but they still aren't showing up on my page.
They've already been accepted. The reason they aren't showing up on your page though is because you used "Andrew is XXL" as the player/editor name, which is fine, but I have to add that as one of your aliases (which I just did). Eventually we're going to have an alias claiming system in place so that users can submit to take ownership of a particular alias, but right now it's just a manual process.
You should see your videos on your page now.
tapatalk support would be cool (at least I have problems finding it or accessing it)
This has been mentioned several times, and all I can really say is that Tapatalk support is not likely to be included. I have taken extensive time to make the site usable on a mobile device within a browser. You'll note that everything scales appropriately to the size of your browser window. Of course there's always room for improvement, and mobile functionality/usability is a big priority, so I'll keep you guys posted on this as I make improvements.

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks.
Is it possible to change the embed size of a video? I tried to edit the height/width properties but it's still filling the whole post.
Sorry @Alen, I saw your post about this earlier and forgot to respond. No there isn't, the reason being is I want the video embeds to be responsive, meaning they scale to the size of their container. This means that on mobile they scale to fit properly. It's kind of an all or nothing deal, and since I want the site to be mobile friendly, embeds need to stay responsive.
went to post in the pet peeves thread, and all that shows is the subscribe buttons and the CoT link that's at the bottom of threads. the thread itself doesn't show up. been going on for an hour now. not sure if it's that thread only or if it's more, but i'll be sure to post a screenshot if it happens again when I get home
edit: it just did it with this thread too when I posted this and it refreshed to the last page
any specific ideas? like we have the Halo 2 Spartan load when you open up h2vids and the h1 when hce vids but load that type of thing every forum page and you have load issues. I'm thinking on it tho, for the Halo sections it could be cool to have an added border or something. Obv not a priority but could be cool. If you have ideas feel free to share, no idea if nv1 would be down with it but we can think eh.
i don't have anything specific because i don't know much about what's going on internally and it's clear i'm out of my realm in discussing scripts etc., as per the conversation i just read between pulse and nv1, so i'm going to refrain from trying to give any specific ideas.
That being said, and i'm saying this trying to give no offense, the forum looks like a default template from a web building host. At the very least i think the color scheme could use something a little more creative/pleasing (the grays we had on vbulletin made shit easy to read and looked good... but also belonged to a halo template so maybe that's just why i liked it better). I just don't feel like i'm going to a halo site anymore, which is a huge turn off.

Ok, so I can understand that to some the site may look "plain", but what I'm going for, and what it is referred to in most web spaces, is called a "flat" look, also often associated with "minimalistic". It's not supposed to have a lot of colors or gradients. Have you noticed this trend in mobile applications?
Next, to address the more "pleasing grays", the site has both a light and dark skin. If you liked the last VBulletin skin, then you will probably like the dark skin. The comment about the old skin "belonging to a halo template" doesn't really make any sense to me, which if it was going to make sense to anyone it would be me since I wrote it.
Now, like I said in my initial response, there's certainly room for additional presentation of our brand, and of the Halo franchise. I think the home page and videos are kind of set in that regard, considering they have lots of images, most of which will contain halo imagery. But I think you're missing the fact that neither the old site, or other popular Halo forums like TeamBeyond, have much Halo-specific imagery in their forum layout. Seriously, go take a look at our old site (halo2forum.com). Aside from the banner at the top, there was absolutely nothing else that was Halo specific. Not one thing.
I think you're riding on nostalgia here, and I think it's clouding your memory of what the old site actually looked like. You're not used to the new layout/look, that's ok, lots of people aren't yet, but you're making things up in your mind and convincing yourself that the new site is devoid of a Halo feel that the old site had, when in actuality, it's the other way around.
How is the "Site Search" feature supposed to work on the main page? If i search for the tearm 'Wiggins', I would expect the NBA thread to pop up as a result. Instead, I get this message: No keywords provided. Please enter your search in the "Site Search" block.
I have tried a few different search terms, all with the same results.

Forum search is something I am working on. Right now the site search on the home page only searches articles and polls. Thank you for bringing it up actually, because I've been so busy working on fixing other things that I almost forgot about it. I'll keep you guys posted on this.

That is kind of what I was thinking, but wanted to double check. Thanks

Not so much halo specific as i'd like the forum to look like it has something to do with gaming. poor choice of wording on my part. Beyond's color scheme is much better and that site looks like a gaming site to me. maybe it's just the color palette. TB looks like something i would expect out of a gaming forum/news hub whereas this site looks much more generic/sterile to me.
Is there any way we can get a H2F or THF icon that shows up on browser tabs? Right now, it's just a white rectangle with rounded corners. That's some shit... I'll take a screenshot of it you want, in case it's showing up different on my side.
and i don't know if it's been mentioned, but a "currently viewing" element at the bottom of the page so you can see who else is in the thread with you.
also, the page needs to snap to your post once you make your post. having to scroll down after a post is an inconvenient pinch in the ass.
