Super Smash Brothers Thread: 64, Melee, Brawl, & Smash 4 (Casual and Competitive Discussion)

I hate both of my controllers

Smash 4 stick doesn't tap jump out of aerial shine like 50% of the time and i miss free followups because of that

OG GC stick sucks at pivoting so I find myself dashing in the complete opposite direction when I want to pivot grab/small dash JC grab

Also have been playing Fox the past few months and I'm sick of spaghetti'ing myself with the damn character, so I'm switching back to Falco so I can actually think in neutral, improve lasers and spacing with both characters, and get WIKKID SIKK COMBOS

lmao chillin. i checked stream at the perfect time. literally the worst ive ever seen wizzy play though.

EVO drinking game

Take a shot or a sip for:

Every Scarcissistic moment (whenever Scar references himself, brings up lame play and compares it to himself, 5th at Genesis, etc.)
Every Toph tangent
D1 being as E-sports as possible
Blur talking about "optimal"
Each ChuDat pose
M2K rocking back and forth in his chair
SDs (chug if homie stock)

Chug for:

Hungrybox popoffs
Chokes/upsets
Every time the mic cuts out from hype
Mang0 chants (for as long as the chant endures)
PewPewU getting 9th (finish the rest of whatever you have)
Gods meeting
Every mindblowingly sick combo

666xx is here.

grats to the winner but i don't want to touch melee for a month

You sound like such a reddit fag, lol

I honestly do think HBox deserved the W because he genuinely outplayed Armada, who actually hit his stride on FD by the first set. Really intense stuff.

The real surprises were S2J beating Westballz (the one win where it mattered most, holy moly) and Plup hitting his peak, but Armada still shutting him down 3-0. Plup has beaten HBox at locals before (I saw one of those sets in person, really good stuff) but I've never seen him play so quickly. Those shield drops looked perfect, his movement was super tricky, and his edgeguards were really on point. Wouldn't be surprised if he won a major without Armada in attendance.

My only actual complaint about EVO is Top 8 not being bo5, because there was real potential in Mango's game 3 versus HBox. Knew it was over when he wouldn't stop challenging HBox at ledge, can't be that risky and disrespectful when there's real money and prestige on the line. Went out like a complete buster, being stubborn is not how you win EVO.

Hbox needs a secondary.
Hbox's post on reddit basically made everyone hate him again lmfao

Haven't been on the sub in a few days, what did he say? LOL

SFAT has been looking really solid lately. Really close sets versus Mew2King and double eliminating Mang0 at CCC. I think he's set to take Leffen's place by next year if Leffen doesn't come back to competing. Some of the edgeguards he gets on Marth are mindblowing.

watch any of these sets if you're struggling from either end of the Fox v Marth matchup.

SFAT also does analysis on his gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/user/Alpharius11/

I wish there was more cross over and respect between the smash community and FGC considering Smash (esp. Melee) really is a respectable fighting game and has a lot of the same fundamentals as classic fighters.

Anyway, this video is mostly meant for Street Fighter but is appropriate for Smash and any competitive head-to head-videogame. I think this guy offers great advice on how to take defeat and actually learn from the bullshit that happens in a game if you're prone to getting salty.

Shine was fucking crazy.

SFAT is actually American Leffen and the way he played against Hungrybox was probably the best I've ever seen a Fox play in the matchup, absolutely textbook. Mango struggled in comparison, despite having his aggro, hyperspeed play work out for him - Hungrybox hasn't played completely on point since EVO, but definitely stepped it up from Super Smash Con. Seems like SFAT has worked out his mentality issues - I've never seen him play this clutch, and I've never seen Mango tilt so hard after a gimp.

Congratulations to Mew2King for winning another major, this time with multiple gods present. He was definitely playing on fire and showed some nutty creativity in his punishes/edgeguards. If Mango claims he was playing at a 9, then SFAT was at 9.5, and Mew2King at 9.9.

I wish there was more cross over and respect between the smash community and FGC considering Smash (esp. Melee) really is a respectable fighting game and has a lot of the same fundamentals as classic fighters.

The melee community was, at one point, the most relatable to the FGC from 2009-2012. It was very grassroots, not esports at all, and it wasn't afraid of dying. It took 5-6 people (MIOM) to bring attention to the community to come together and be a part of FGC through EVO. They honestly could have done it at any point during it's lifetime, but the general player base never touched another 2D-3D fighter as seriously as they did with melee. It was mostly that whole "it's a party game" way of thinking within the FGC, but I'd say from 2014-to now it's no longer a real problem. After the EVO fund, the documentary, nintendo's recognition, and many sponsorships melee went from being the underdog to entitled brat. Add on more twitch fanboys who have never watched/played fighting games and you've got little to no crossover even with people like Scar, Prog, James Chen, and LordKnight trying to encourage people to step out of their comfort zone.

It also doesn't help that top players like MacD, SFAT, and Leffen (who is actually really fucking good at MvC3) shit talk crossover FGC events on twitter for best of 3s or time constraints even when the general attendee consensus is positive (CEO, EVO)

Players within the smash community are starting to notice that Melee isn't a marketable game. So I'm guessing that the future of the game as a "respectable" title will fall upon the maturity of it's viewership. It'll be around, but the FGC will still joke about it being the baby game due to how dramatic and childish the community can be at times. I don't really see it moving anywhere within the next two to three years, but I can say that most scrubs and frauds will lose interest and transition into the next fad of "hardcore softcore gaming" (speedruns -> melee -> ???) hopefully maturing the scene as a whole in the process.

This Lovage VS Squid set. If I pick up fox I'm playing like this:

Oh and the whole Puff/ICs hate thing is proof that melee still has a ways to go before becoming a real FGC mainstay considering they're basically grapplers.
As someone who came from the Marvel community to Melee, I never got the hate between the two.  People just like to complain about something if it isn't "their thing".
project m is pretty dope.

Rhis got rekt in the Marth ditto yesterday.

And then he 4 stocked me with Falcon.  Times is tough.

lol idk about me getting rekt ;) but your marth was def looking crispier by the end. and besides that wasn't even close to the worst 4-stock of the night, still thinking about THAT one on Dillon and how I missed landing on Randall by an inch.

we need to get some shit recorded bruh. ill text you later.
