Super Smash Brothers Thread: 64, Melee, Brawl, & Smash 4 (Casual and Competitive Discussion)
^My buddies and I were watching that last night. It's a pretty good rundown of why melee pulls in such a fanbase and community.
Started working on recording video. I don't go out to tourneys all that often but I'll be heading to Dallas soon to hang with some friends and wanted to stream/record while I was there. Not bad looking for a Dazzle and this shitty laptop:
It's an Invisible Ceiling glitch that's guaranteed for Luigi in certain situations thanks to his funky ass traction.

best bh5 stream moment imo:
another vid of me wrecking ICs

the most satisfying feeling in the world is beating a wobbling ICs
also, i'm a Fox main and i'm looking on advice on what to do against a very defensive Fox. i'm decent at Fox dittos just by playing so many, but this guy plays a style of Fox that i'm not used to. he's is definitely better but he kinda plays "safe." like he won't approach and if i approach he'll stuff my approaches. hes VERY good at taking stage control and keeping it. i've played about 4-5 total games with him and i got 3 stocked twice. i know this is vague but what should i look for next time i play him? any advice you can give me would be great.
really great play. i'm definitely gonna study what you do in the neutral for some ideas. there's a very good wobbling ICs at my school and its VERY hard for me to beat him.

here's a video of me playing fox dittos and i win pretty decisively.

fox dittos are HELLA janky but i think i'm pretty decent at them. basically what i try to do is do a lot of dash dancing/baiting to see how he approaches me. if he is very rush down heavy you definitely want to dash dance and do a lot of wavedash back to bait out his approach. if he is defensive, shoot a lot of lasers to get him to approach. one of my favorite approach options is run in -> shine. its very safe and hard to punish. theres also your standard nair -> shine pressure but make sure you tech skill is on point so you don't get grabbed. if my tech skill isn't on point when i'm doing shield pressure i'll go for shine grab. in fact i've just basically defaulting to this because its honestly the best option. the only way they can get out of it is if they buffer a roll/spot dodge
basically how i approach the matchup is i'm almost always trying to shoot lasers to rack up damage and to unstale my moves. i like to full hop back air to stuff their approaches. i also dash dance alot so i can get a grab at low percents so i can get 2 easy upsmashes off for a quick ~50% . work on your chaingrabs against fox especially for FD so you'll be prepared to chaingrab a fox zero to death on FD.
also, UP TILT UP TILT UP TILT. this move is GODLIKE. it is an amazing combo tool and because of its ridiculous priority it will stuff out every approach and move ey throw at you except shine.
tl;dr - dash dance a lot, go for grabs for easy combos, shine approach, back air, and UP TILT. this move is so under utilized but i honestly think its fox's best move besides shine

yeah im definitely working on implementing uptilt into my play style more, it's a great defensive option and it's amazing to continue combos with.
shine grab is incredible, i play a good amount of fox/falco and it's amazing in that matchup.
do you have any general advice for not getting caught in shield? that happens to me too much against spacies that are slightly above my skill level. i have decent out of shield game but its still a pretty bad tendency
utilize platforms more. when you get caught in your shield a lot it means you're losing neutral a lot so you need to work on your neutral. i do this by utilizing the platforms for a run and gun game and then i'll switch it up and be aggressive. if they're catching you in your shield then you should do a lot of wave dash back to punish their aggresion.
do you have any vids of you playing? it would be much easier to critique
Mango played the best melee he's played in a major so far this year towards the end there (not counting press start as a major). I think what m2k said about how he does better when he can go all falco is true, keeping fox and falco warm must be so fucking hard. He definitely benefits when HBox isn't there.
Props to armada, summit for best tourney of the year imo

found this on facebook, all the vods from the weekend
I can honestly understand Leffens frustration with losing to Samus. Fox vs Samus is a 50/50 matchup but take away Fox's long combos and being able to CC literally everything except shine and you have a frustrating matchup.
Samus is def my least favorite matchup, would much rather fight Peach or Puff. At least they're light.
Fun fact: Samus is the 3rd heaviest character in the game behind Bowser and DK
