As stated before, this is a single elimination event.  Top 4 advance, bottom 4 drop out.  Due to bracket restrictions, the last 5 people to sign up will act as substitutes for when people inevitably, do not show up.  I have personally taken myself out of the tournament  in order to better facilitate the rounds.  In the event of a disconnect prior to the first kill of the match, the match is to be restarted.   The highest seed in each bracket will be responsible for gathering all participants into a preliminary party as well as posting the final score of each match to the thread.  However, hosts will be selected by majority vote for each Heat.  Also, a host check on a non-Midship map will be required by the chosen host before each match is played.  Lastly, a player cannot have host for two consecutive rounds, unless the other 7 players agree that, that person’s host is the best for that round.  If 4 or more players in a Heat cannot decide on a host, than I will step in and pick one for that Heat.

 

The reason why I am not pre-selecting hosts before the event is because first, a person’s upload and download speed are not a true determinant of whether others can play on their host with minimal problems.  Second, if a person is chosen as a host and they are eliminated in the early rounds, then that presents a problem.  Third, if you chose your hosts before the event, then it creates seeding and bracket problems that would be unfair to everyone who is not a host.  I believe my solution of letting you guys and gals chose your own host for each match is the most fair and logical way for an online free for all tournament.  And I am open to neutralizing the host for the finals if that is what the top 8 wants.

I want everyone to realize that this event is something that I organized and am orchestrating by myself.  Therefore, I ask everyone to please do their best to make my job easier.  I understand that the MCC still does not work 100% of the time, that is why there is no entry fee for this tournament.  I can already foresee that problems will arise on the day of the event; and I promise to do my very best to resolve all issues and disputes in a way that is fair to everyone competing.  With that being said, please do not cheat nor disrespect anyone participating.  I expect you all to be mature, respectful and most importantly, to just have fun playing the game we all love.  This is the first tourney I have put together in a while, so it is a learning experience for me as well.  And if anyone needs anything from me, the best method to contact me is either in a private message or over XBL.  Thanks again to everyone who signed up and good luck.

When: Saturday May 30th.  You must be available from 3pm EST to 6pm EST.

Prize Pool:

  • 1st Place: $60 USD

  • 2nd Place: $30 USD

  • 3rd Place: $10 USD

 

Entry Fee: None

 

How To Enter: 

  • Step 1) Register on TheHaloForum forums here

  • Step 2) Post your Gamertag in this thread.

  • Step 3) Registration ends on May 23th

 

Schedule: 

  • Round 1 (Top 64) will begin at 3pm EST  

  • Round 2 (Top 32) will begin at 3:45pm EST

  • Round 3 (Top 16) will begin at 4:30pm EST

  • Round 4 (Top 8 *Finals*) will begin at 5:15pm EST

 

Reporting Scores: The top seed of each Heat will be responsible for posting a screenshot after each match.  Other players are encouraged to also save a picture of the final score in case of any disputes.  

 

Settings:

  • Map - Midship

  • Time Limit: 15 mins

  • ​BR Starts, no secondary

  • Human Weapons on Map

  • Motion Sensor: On

  • No Score Limit

  • Suicide Penalty: -1

 

Bracket:  Single Elimination Tournament.  Bracket will be posted here after the  registration period is over.  Seeding will be random.

 

Rules: 

  • 8 man FFA, top 4 advance, bottom 4 drop out

  • The use of an 'Elite' will result in a  forfeit 

  •  If a player doesn't show up 10 minutes after the scheduled match time, they forfeit

  •  Any and all disputes will be handled by myself and the THF staff

  •  Entrants that place in the money will need a Paypal account to receive their prize

  • 1v1s will determine any ties, only if kills, deaths, and assists are all identical

  • 64 max player count

Well I'd say that under no circumstances should a non-NA player have host, unless there are more than 4 non-NA players in a bracket. And then whoever does have host, a test game should be done to test the host and if its bad someone else gets host.

Depending on who hosts, the game results will be wildly different. That's just a reality, and i don't think a lot of people will buy into this for that reason. An FFA tournament at this stage of MCC and in it's current state is not a wise choice, imho. I'd recommend a 4s tournament, where host power is a little more diluted and where it's objectively less of a deterrent. Is it still an advantage in fours? Obviously, but giving both teams a chance to play on host in a series is much more balanced than letting one random person completely destroy in an FFA or wreck everyone's experience because their connection is absolute garbage. I also think it's worth point out that most of the people i've been talking with and playing with online are really burnt out on FFA, and have been looking to run more fours. I would include myself in that pool of players as well.

If you insist on doing FFA you need to test hosts and find out which hosts are generally preferred. You start with this pool of players. Anyone within that pool of players can request host (like request host box at FFA tournies in the past), if there's a discrepancy randomly select for that descrepancy amongst those who were approved to request host. People might not like it but the bottom line is that not everyone's host is playable and leaving it up to RNG to select a host that may or may not even work is a really foolish idea and is literally begging for issues/complaints/problems.

If you decide to reassess the tournament and possibly run 4s i can help you out. 4s is more viable for a number of reasons but will require a larger prizepool. I would host a seeding bracket (Free to enter) as a preamble to generate a little hype and let people know that THF is trying to get some good tournies going. I'd recommend the following:
-Randomize the entrants in a bracket
-best of 3 til finals
-different gametype lineup each round
-First Host is randomly picked, Alternating after that.
-Each team has ONE designated hoster that's been approved.
-Losers bracket inclusion based on time and number of teams competing.
-Placings designate your seed for the pay out tournament.


This will not only generate a little bit of a buzz, but it rewards players for showing up and gives a decent seeding for host designation for the cash tournament. Higher seed starts with host for the cash tournament. Hopefully this will provide a little extra time for fundraising (based on the donation goals i'd say there might be a little surplus to go a long way in a tournament like this. As far as new teams signing up that didn't play for seed, i'd like to see matchups be made objectively by people who play h2c regularly and know the competition to ensure that seeds get rewarded properly.

Hopefully the recent problem of nobody being able to join each other gets resolved before this. I would love to participate in this, but I'll be 15 hours away from my XBox that day. Cant wait to see what the turn out looks like.

I would like to play that tournament, but american host is unplayable for me in FFAs. I think i'll join it but mostly for fun since i believe i have little to no chance to win. Halo 2 Classic seems to be even more unfair than original Halo 2 when it comes to host disadvantage in FFAs.

I won't be able to make it, my exams are coming up right around that date. It's probably for the best though, I'm shit at H2C. I'll spare my dignity for a CE tournament.

This. Human weapons on map = MLG settings. Rifles would lead to a lot of carbining bs.
