The Official Poker/Gambling Thread

Stealing this from you ohem. Haven't been doing so great from the casino. I do make pretty decent money but the thing is I don't officially have a poker bank roll to use on only poker. I just see how much I have in my bank and say "yeah, sure lets play poker". If youre going to play in a casino DO NOT make the same mistake. You're going to play scared and not want to lose your money. I've lost 1100 in the last two times going Anyway, my losing streak has been going for a little while now. Got kings, queens and jacks a total of 5 times and could only win one of those times. It's running bad and maybe not betting enough honestly. I need to reread some books and make a bank roll dedicated to poker if I want to start taking it serious from here on out. I know Xyox was a regular with poker. Who else? Bad beat stories are always fun
What websites do you guys use for free online poker? I have time to kill between work/assignments and I'm tired of doodling stupid shit.

can't go wrong with pokerstars.com

personally I use unibet but they don't have playmoney

If you want play money games, just go to Pokerstars. It might get annoying because all anyone does is just go all in every hand (since it's free) until they build a decent bankroll of play money. It's actually funny though, once you're playing with like half a million play money chips, the people take it MORE seriously than real money.

@Ohem: Didn't you say you were trying to step up your game? What skill level are you at and what stakes do you  play? Do you ever play live?

Always a good feeling lol. I read the fuck out of him, checking the river to him with quads hahaha

nice hand, lol

I usually play NL10(€0.05/€0.10) hold em cash games. I also play a few low buy in tourneys every now and then, along with freerolls.

I wouldn't know what skill level I'm at. I tend to win alot of the time and even double up at times but I'm struggling with letting go of hands and I make a few too many hero calls because I smell bluff.

I think I might switch to PokerStars soon

Yea you might as well play on Stars if you're not in the US, it's like the best site out there. Are there many casinos in Norway?
None. Casinos are illegal here but we are free to play online as long as it's not stationed in the country

Aww, lame.

I play almost strictly tourneys online but I play mostly cash live.

How come?

Well I've always been a tourney guy. I started playing online when I was 12. When I was 13, I won my very first tournament for over a thousand dollars. There were 10,000 entrants too, which is one of the biggest fields you can find. After that, tournaments just became my thing. I'm a way better tournament player than I am cash game player, but I play cash live because it's just way easier to find cash games than tourneys live. Good ones, at least. But I much more enjoy tourneys. I still have the ticket/receipt for the very first live tourney I ever won. There were 173 entrants and it was a $20 buy in. Here it is:

wow, that had to feel good as a 13 year old.

Idk, people seem to play way looser in small buy in tourneys, especially online. that's why I prefer cash games. I know I should just wait for the nuts when people are that loose and play every hand, all in etc. but man, I get annoyed fast at that shit

switching to PS right now btw

nevermind that last part. for some reason they're not accepting norwegian cards. lame

sticking to unibet then I guess

Gotta love the old people who call your all in with like 70 percent of their stack with a suited Q3. Sure I was trying to steal it but you can't call with fucking Q3
$100 tourney. Shove KK with like 15BB, get two callers. A10 and AJ. Hit an Ace on the river.. fuck
Always sucks when they have such a low chance to hit and still spike it
Yeah you're telling me. A10 can't call in that spot. That was probably 30 percent of his stack or more. Maybe he can. But me being UTG or UTG plus one.. it's kind of loose. AJ can only call in that spot if A10 doesn't. No way you're getting an all in, a smooth call then you also call with that

I often think what my life would be like if Black Friday never happened.  I was in my 1st year away from away at college and made some deep runs on PS and created a pretty large bankroll.  Here are my stats from 2011

idk man A 10... i would called all day. specially if it's only 30% my stack.. scared money dont make money
You're calling a 15BB stack witb that knowing you are either super dominated or have one over and still have like 7 people behind you? That's a bit loose IMO

Are you though? 15BBs isn't a lot to begin with, especially if that amounts to only 30% of his stack. Your open shove from UTG doesn't even look that strong anyway. I mean, how often do you just have QJ suited and you're afraid of the blinds next hand and feel like this is the best chance you have to double up into something meaningful? Probably pretty often to be honest. Why do you think they "know" they're super dominated? How do they have 7 behind them? I thought you were UTG or one off? Was the guy directly to your left? His play wasn't great, but it wasn't THAT garbage.

Pretty good cashing rate llama, I remember we actually played together back then.

a 10 is a pretty strong hand.. u shove 30% my stack and unless the table we're at i feel like EVERYONE is going to call i'm going to call you..

u said u have KK?? i have an A i'm not going to put u on AA because that's low chance 3 a coming out on top the deck..

i'm not sure how that's really loose. unless i got someone who i think is gonna call whose gonna put me in over 50% my stack or more i'mma call that all day like i said.

and if there suited i ain't thinking about nothing else but calling. that's just me though i am not a real loose player but shit it's a 100$ tourney.

its like people playing 2/4 limit tryna bet you outta the pot. low stakes i'mma play looser. plus ur 15 blinds left. anything two face cards i'd go all in ur posotion. shit i'll go all in on A anything but 678

I don't know exactly what his stack was. I should've been paying attention to that, I just knew it was a lot more than mine. Blinds were 300/600 and he had close to 30k probably. And the small blind woke up with AJ so he ended up losing that. I still think A10 isn't good for just a call. That's just me
Anybody here that can point me in the right direction to do some online cash sports betting?

I'm with you here, Twitchy. You haven't given all the information, but that sounds like a super loose call from UTG+1 if it is was for 30% of his stack. If he was one of the last to act then it's a fine call I guess, but there was a ton of people behind him.  If someone reraises behind him then he's probably up against two better hands and completely dominated, so depending on that reraise he's either folding 30% of his stack or risking the majority of it in a bad spot. That turned out to be close to what happened. I would have thrown away A10 without a second thought it that spot, it's just way too easy to be dominated with that hand.

The AJ probably shouldn't have called either, but idk what his stack was and maybe he thought the A10 guy was loose/weak. Woulda been nice to see you triple up off those guys.

The AJ had like 8200 or so in chips so he was sitting around like 13 bb. I had 9200. So he had less than me and he was the small blind. I wouldve loved to triple off of them. I got 7th in this tourney last year. There was a field of 223 people I think and I was in it for almost $200 after the add ons and whatnot
Need to start building a bank roll. I can't keep going to the casino playing with money I'm scared to lose. I'll make quite a bit this summer at my job but I'm wanting to do some remodeling to the house
what do u guys usually play when u go? i usually stick tot 1-2 or 5-5 no limit. i hate limit unless it's like 8/16 limit kill or something
I just stick to 1/2 or 1/3(only in STL ). I'm not trying to spend more than 600 at a time because after that, you're not running well and coming back from 600 is going to be tough
yeah but that shit is easy just play tight  asss abc poker and wait till u have the nuts and smash em... lots of rich  dudes who thought since they could beat their drunk buddys gotti going now
ABC poker isn't a bad way to go. I've been the guy to smash flops all night and then not hit any. One kid gets KK then AA then QQ back to back to back. KK he gets to the flop and loses the minimum on like a Jack high flop. He folds and shows kings, the other guy shows Aces. Ridiculous. Then the next hand those two flip hands, the guy then busts him with Aces.. all in preflop. Then he gets queens and busts another guy. Wish I could get that lucky
Finally back home in California where I get to once again play poker. Won the 1st tournament I played tonight which was a $20 rebuy for $480. All the old guys started muttering that I was an online kid and to respect my play. Excited to see where this takes me. My BR isn't large but once Pstars CA hits I will he making a name for myself. Tomorrow there is a $50 rebuy that has about 3k up top. Wish me luck fellas.

Grats Llama, keep us posted.

Can you elaborate on the Pstars CA? I havent been keeping up with anything.

Didn't win yesterday and the way I was eliminated was brutal. About 80ppl started tourney and there was about 15 left. I'm sitting with around 10bb (structure is awful)...I'm dealt KcKd on the button and it folds to me...I shove OBV, SB calls and BB calls. Sweet. I'm about to triple up. Flop comes 7c10c4c. SB check and BB shoves SB folds. I'm tripling up for sure. BB flips over 6d6h. YES I was about to coast to the money. Turn is 6 of spades. River......6 of clubs. The most brutal hand of my poker career...and I've played millions of hands. I almost never bitch or complain about HH but this is one I will never forget. 1st place took home 3.6k.
That's fucking brutal. Even on the turn you were still pretty life. That really sucks man. How many spots cashed?
