That's kind of what I was thinking too. How are the seedings divided up? No offense to the other pool, but it seems unbalanced.

I just voted for myself... our pool is very close. I'm excited/anxious to see the results.
As we get to the final rounds, please spread the word about the competition. The more people involved, the better!

I'm going Death machine, Combat Evolved, and Phantoms. 

Ingenuity was closest to being selected, felt it could have done better with the soundtrack. The music was good, Foo Fighters and Supertramp are great bands but the music seems to be too fast for the clips and it just doesn't really fit. It's a tough one since these clips are so long and need a lot of story telling in order to even tell what's going on, but there has to be a better option for music to go with these clips. Amazing video, and some groundbreaking shit in here but it still ended up feeling clips on a timeliney which is hard for me to vote for at this point. Btw how'd you guys figure out that u can teleport or someshit at the end on avalanche (also 2 other times u guys do that on blackout and narrows)? Was this known before? Or was that originally your guys' concept. cus that was crazy. 

Evadur, Dope gameplay, h3 mlg is always nice but i've seen the same style of clips for the last 8 years where it's not as exciting. I'm not saying this video is bad, and evadur is bad (cus that man wud 15-0 me faster than...idk i can't think of a punchline but pretty damn fast) it's just that i can't find myself choosing this over the picks I liked the most.

Adversary - some insane social gp here, i'll never understand how ppl get high multis lol. NEGATIVE SIDE OF THINGS: I simply couldn't feel the edit. This is extremely biased tho I've never liked hard rock soundtracks for social montages so this is nothing against you lol.  

 

Overall, really tough  bracket. All these videos are great, and everyone should be proud of themselves.

I think this pool is tougher to pick than the other at least for me. Went with Ingenuity for my last vote; gameplay was just too jaw-dropping for me not to put through, This pool is just loaded with high-caliber gameplay. 

Nearly voted for Phantoms, but I just felt GC could have nailed the flow a bit better with some more effort. Big fan of his past work, but this vid is more par for the course. There's better editing submissions this time around. The soundtrack and especially the gameplay are truly what makes the vid special though, and not too many people have talked about it either. Gameplay is just as good as Evadur's and Joey Clutch's honestly. Just hasn't gotten the same hype.

came super close to cancelling my vote for ingenuity. Been buggin me all night lmao i'm lame af.  Phantoms is my 3rd spot,  what is holding it there is that last song. That last song is so montage man it's just what I want from videos. I wasn't a big fan of the first song of Phantoms but the 2nd song was seriously a strong finisher. And like Sucky said the MLG gameplay is really strong, turn around noscope exterms and shit it was crazy. There's also the most ridiculous angle for a no scope on cstruct in the 2nd song from bottom middle. Anywayssssssssssssssssss. What almost won me over for ingenuity is i can remember almost all of ingenuity clips which means something.  It's tough okay. And now looking back again ingenz soundtrack and editing isn't as bad as I made it sound, it's just tough to look good beside the 3 choices I went with.

And like anyone who mentions keeps referring to it as social gameplay for some reason. Phantoms is definitely my favourite entry in this comp.

Going with Combat evolved as nr 1 and Death Machine and Ingenuity. They held my attention the best. Phantoms did well also because of the vibe it created but I couldnt remember a moment from the video as vividly as death machine and ingenuity.

Your vid, Adversary's and Phantoms have the issue of competing with an insane amount of 'similar' h3 videos in my mind, some of which are of insane levels of quality both gp and editing wise.  FatRat, Intro the TranQ, Game Over, Delightful, Revival,jerrawokee and blaze, Ambience by Katalyst, Ruxs, Marksman, The Wake Up by Local, 5 deadly venoms are just some from last contest I remember.  Let alone Zola, Puba, Hyena, Muggsy, Phurion,  Kblocker, Kampy, Mattison, PtW, Fragtality, Exus, Dutchy, Krayte  etc. etc. fuck even Lacoz3  (:P) running train for all those years.

I understand thats an unfair thing that shouldnt be a factor, but its a thing that counts for me right now as Im watching these. B Sik and Heyna have to deal with similar stuff but the amount of insane h3 videos is the most taxing because halo was at its peak then both in active players, pro scene and the montage scene. H3 is also a bit more limited mechanically when played mostly on MLG settings (unless you ask hyena), Trevx64 is in a smaller niche. Out of the 'normal' h3 videos here Phantoms was the one that most stood apart in my mind. Joey h3m1 by Fatal did it best from the h3 montages here as far as I can tell right now.  

I havent been around the last few months so maybe I should stfu, these are my thoughts jumping back in for a second and giving these vids a 1 or 2 times viewing.

I think a dualtage should be held to a higher standard for gameplay. I think joey's clips were better regardless though.

rewatched evadurs video , the gameplay is actually crazy think the editing will keep it from winning, think I actually prefer the gameplay to tranq/goose montage but maybe I just dont remember tranqs :P

I definitely think that all the criticisms given about the editing on Phantoms are definitely legitimate. I basically waited too long to get to work on it and spent basically all of August editing like a machine and at some point had to accept what worked, not what would have been optimal. I'm still happy with what got put out but the first song could have used like two weeks more of polish. I think the gameplay has been underrated or dismissed as social despite being more of a slice of everything from mlg to social to sticks. Slater's got a hell of a point with how videos are being compared to other videos from their same game. A lot of h1 and h2 videos are extremely high quality (in terms of editing) within their game but don't necessarily stack up when compared to all the halo videos made ever.

I really think this competition has overall had a low bar for editing, not to say that there aren't some well edited videos out there. That being said this gameplay and variety of what's being seen as a real contenders is pretty sweet. When I think about spending my time editing I come back to the same thing. I spent maybe 300+ hours on my part of Game Over not even including trying to manage the theme and soundtrack to be effective. If I compare that to the total amount of entertainment that people get from it, it's got <3500 views and about 10 minutes long. This comes out to about 600 hours of entertainment that people got from it and considering I only edited half of it, it's more like breaking even. I'm not even going to pretend that I broke anywhere close to even on Phantoms. Stuff like this makes it really hard to motivate people to make high quality videos. It's also a hell of a lot harder to step up enough to actually be significantly better when there's been other really high quality videos (diminishing returns yada yada). I tried to do/thought MK and I did that with Game Over and even that only made it to top 20 in the last contest. Figured I'd go with a simpler style that'd play better with thf's sensibilities and was more achievable in the timeframe this time around. I'd like to see more thoughtful soundtrack selection, more purposeful placement of the insane clips in a video at emotional high points in the song, and some more love being shown to the audiowork in later videos that come out. Best of luck to whatever videos make it out of this round of death, just my 2 cents on the contest and editing in general these days.

true dat, whole vid was solid and loved the imagery. That last like 1.5 minute I think it was from MK really went off, one of the best bits in the contest easily.

It did feel a bit pieced together here and there, but it underperformed hard in the brackets. Then again I thought FatRat's vid wasnt all that so you know.. we're all silly.
